Best Essential Oils for Hair Loss and Regrowth

Essential Oils for Hair Loss

Whether you are a man or woman, hair loss can be a devastating event. And it doesn't just affect aging people. Many young people lose their hair due to stress, bad health, pregnancy, or hormone imbalance. I'm asked a lot about my favorite essential oils for hair loss and regrowth and today I want to share a DIY recipe that helped me when I lost a ton of hair after my molar pregnancy.

Tea tree essential oil is anti-fungal so it will help to heal your scalp of any issues that may be causing itchiness. Peppermint essential oil is so invigorating and will help with blood flow. Rosemary essential oil and geranium essential oil are great for smooth silky hair. Many DIY shampoos and conditioners use these oils to promote healthy hair and a clean scalp. I also use some of these in my homemade hairspray recipe which you absolutely must try!

Pair these essential oils with some magnesium gel and you've got a great root treatment or hair serum to combat hair loss!

DIY Essential Oils for Hair Loss

Ready to get started? Gather up your oils, a small glass bottle (I love an amber glass bottle with a dropper for this) and your magnesium gel!

Instructions
  1. Put all your essential oils into your glass bottle and add the magnesium gel. Add your lid or dropper cap and shake well to mix.
  2. After showering, massage a small amount of the mixture into your scalp. Style hair as usual.
Notes
* My favorite oils are rosemary, peppermint, geranium, and tea tree. You can use a combination of all of these, just don't exceed the 10 drops called for in the recipe.

Tell me, which essential oils for hair loss are your favorites? Do you use just a few, or all of them?

Can I use my homemade magnesium oil (magnesium flakes and boiling water) instead of the magnesium gel?

    1. How long should a person wait to see results? I’ve tried other EO recipes, but I still have no growth.

    2. Do we add equal amounts of the recommended EOs?

    Hi Mama Z

Thanks for this hair loss and regrowth serum recipe – I was just wondering, should hair be wet or dry when applying?

    Thank you
    Maria

Damp, not soaking wet, works just fine. Right out of the shower.

    Thank you, Mama Zielinski!

I have been losing hair at a frightening rate.
I hope this recipe will halt that and allow me to regrow my hair. (Years ago, a woman called my hair “Mermaid Hair”, and strangers would tell me how beautiful it was. No longer.)

I’m going to make your hair serum now.
Thank you for the recipe, and the hope…
    ❤️Katy

Is this like a leave in conditioner?

And does it matter whether I wash my hair in the morning or before bed?

    Thanks.

Not really. Your hair and scalp will absorb it well enough. 🙂

Thank you for the recipe, I will definitely try this on my scalp, as my hair doesn’t stop falling out. I knmow it is the stress, but also the water coming through very old tubes, which I suppose are still made of lead.

The information on this says it is weaker than magnesium oil. If using the oil instead of the gel, would you need to dilute it with something else?

Mg oil and Mg gel are two different products. This recipe calls for the gel. The oil is more for pain relief and other medicinal strategies. 🙂

My eyebrows have almost disappeared. Would this serum help that? I know to keep oils out of my eyes.
