Front Yard Landscaping Ideas

front-yard-landscaping-ideasOne of my favorite things about our urban homestead are the beautiful colors that decorate the outside. I was raised on a homestead with every color and fragrant aroma imaginable and it's delightful to see the birds, bees and hummingbirds that they all attract. This is especially important because without these “pollinators” you'll struggle to get a rich fruit and vegetable harvest.

When it comes to planning out your landscaping, my recommendation is to let your heart be your guide. One of my favorite verses really rings true for this:

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will gives you the desires of your heart” ~ Psalm 37:4

The best part is that you really can't go wrong, and it all will all look beautiful!

Some Ideas

If you don't know where to start or if you're looking to spruce up your current arrangement, I put together a few front yard landscaping ideas for you. I thought it best to walk around my urban homestead and take some photos and let the pictures be our guide. When setting up your own yard, let your creativity reign and (most important) choose plants that you LOVE! This is the secret to true gardening happiness. šŸ™‚

Mama ZAnd last of all, here's me getting all sweaty & dirty on my urban homestead. Hey, I'm as girly as it comes, but when it comes to tending my gardens, you just gotta throw the gloves off and get into the soil! And here are the best things:

  • It gives me an opportunity to have special time with the Lord in prayer.
  • It gives me special time with my kids as I teach them the ropes.
  • It gives me peace and solace.
  • It gives me a sense of being connected with the earth and my Maker.
  • It helps me stay fit and healthy.

And it's a way of life that I truly love!

How about you? What does YOUR front yard landscaping look like?

These are all so lovely! Follow the natural limits of the home and the yard to set aside areas of the property for landscaping. This keeps the front yard arranging looking uniform and in accordance with whatever remains of the property. Make walkways that build up a steady example and are practical and also delightful.

Beautiful garden! Do you plant edibles or herbs in your front yard too?

On this rainy, icy, and foggy morning, I’m listening to the birds singing praises at the bird feeder, seeing the new green leaves on my elderberry plants rooting on my kitchen window, and dreaming of the garden changes coming in the spring. A little dreaming and planning gets me through these dreary winter days.

We have 40 acres in the foothills so we keep it as natural & native as possible. I plant a vast variety of trees & plants realizing that they need some protection as we share with lots of wildlife! šŸ™‚

I love gardening for all of the reasons you listed…HE teaches us so much when we reconnect with the soil. And, do you know about Earthing/Grounding? Digging in the dirt is so healthy for us, too!!
