Bulletproof Pumpkin Spice Latte

This richly decadent drink should be forbidden! But no worries. It's not unhealthy like the pumpkin spice latte you get at Starbucks. It is a healthy alternative to anything you could possibly purchase and much cheaper to make, too!  My Bulletproof Pumpkin Pie Spice Latte will begin your day with a wonderful treat that is guilt free.

Harvest Blend for the Diffuser

Whether you actually like pumpkin in your coffee or not, I think we can all agree that autumn aromas are fall's best gifts. This is the time of year when my diffuser works over time. I can't bake a pumpkin pie every day, but my house can smell like I have! Thanks to essential oils like cinnamon, ginger, clove, and nutmeg we can come pretty close to replicating that fall-baking aroma.

Right now one of my favorite diffuser blends is a mix of citrus and spice. It reminds me of the orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon sticks my mom used to set to simmer on the wood stove.

  1. 3 drops tangerine
  2. 2 drops cassia
  3. 1 drop clove
  4. 60-80 ml of water

How about YOU? What fall blends do you use?

The Case of the Missing Pumpkin Spice Latte

So, which cup do you think is mine? Isn't it obvious? I'd think so. I hope so. I planned for it be that way, in fact.

Why is one empty? Payback. Kind of a cathartic experience as I still recover from Pumpkin Spice Latte Fever!

Let me explain…

When I don't feel like bulletproof coffee, I enjoy green tea. Match green tea, in fact. And I've been on a matcha kick for a few months now. Can't get enough of the stuff!

As we approach Fall, I've been overtaken by the pumpkin spice latte craze that seems to have infected everyone else and made myself a pumpkin spice latte (matcha green tea style) yesterday. Well, somehow Mama Z mistakenly thought I made it for her because our mugs (obviously) look so similar. Not sure how else to explain it.

Needless to say, I was super disappointed when I stepped outside to make a conference call only to return to the kitchen to find an empty cup in the sink. What happened? She stole my latte! There's no other way of saying it. Stole it.

When I questioned her about the alleged theft, she said she thought I made her a special treat and left it on the counter. In MY mug! I'm not kidding. This was her argument. Poor girl, she was grasping for straws at this point.

As I continued to litigate my case against her thieving way, something dawned on me. She wasn't in her right mind. She must have been infected by the new bug that's out there. The pumpkin spice latte bug!

Have you been infected? It's not all that bad. Nothing a bulletproof pumpkin spice latte can't fix!

Bulletproof Pumpkin Spice Latte

Now back to my yummy latte…

My recipe makes just enough for one. It is so quick and easy to make that you'll want to enjoy a cup every morning. Taste the Fall season in a cup! Multiply the ingredients to make a batch for company and surprise them with this scrumptious treat. 🙂

For another variation, try using my matcha green tea latte recipe instead of coffee! We've done this and it tastes amazing, even if it does look a little funny.

Perhaps you are allergic to coconut cream?

This sounds wonderful! Can it be made with green tea instead of coffee? If so, just swap out the coffee for an equal amount of green tea? Thanks!

Seriously? You forgot the nutmeg! I make a similar version of this everyday but use coconut butter instead of butter. Don’t like the taste of butter in my coffee.

This is EXCELLENT! I had to make some modifications because I am on a dairy free diet. So MCT oil was substituted for the butter. Also, I didn’t add the pumpkin purée (but will next time). In lieu of pumpkin spice I used nutmeg, cardamom, and allspice.

Since having to go dairy free, I SO missed my morning coffee. The coconut cream and stevia didn’t do the trick. Now I can look forward to my morning coconut pumpkin lattes.

    Than you Dr. Z!!!

This recipe is a calorie/fat BOMB! You lost me at 5 oz cup of coconut cream! Over a half cup!! This drink has 500 (and 45 g of fat) calories in coconut cream, and another 600 kcal (and 50 g fats) for the butter and coconut oil. IMO, BPC for one, should only have 1 TBSP of oil and 1 TBSP butter for the average adult.

Oh, Natalie, we don’t count calories. I don’t recommend that for anyone. It’s a complete distraction from eating a well-balanced diet and consuming the right types of food.

We count healthy ingredients – not all fat is bad fat.

      Note this part,

In the long term, restricting your calories like that won’t help you lose weight. Counting calories doesn’t work because your biology is far too complicated to reduce weight loss to “calories in, calories out.” A better approach is to optimize your metabolism and hormones, both of which contribute to fat burning, while curbing your hunger with food that keeps you full for hours.’

Personally, I have a 5-speed, Oster and it works fine for things like this. I can’t juice fruits and veggies with it, but I make bulletproof coffee and lattes in it all the time. Sometimes I just use a cheap immersion blender when I’m in a hurry.
