This homemade taco seasoning recipe will surprise you. It's super easy to make and calls for just 6 ingredients, all of which are common seasonings you probably already have in your cabinet.
I first started making my own taco seasoning when I wanted to make tacos and discovered I was out of the store bought packets. Now I make my own every time because it's simple and I don't have to worry about what starch or filler has been used to keep the spices from clumping together. While many of these clumping agents are natural, I'd rather not pay for something I don't need. Plus, corn starch is a common filler in these pre-made packets of seasoning and a lot of people are allergic to corn.
And really, it's more than just the filler we're paying extra for, isn't it? Convenience and colorful packaging add up fast. This recipe cuts all that out, saving you money. Win!
DIY Taco Seasoning Recipe
This recipe for taco seasoning makes enough to season one pound of ground meat or beans, just like a packet of seasoning from the store would. You can make it up in about one minute! It doesn't get much simpler than that.
- 1½ teaspoon chili powder
- 1½ teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon white pepper, ground
- ½ teaspoon ground paprika
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon oregano
- ¼ teaspoon pink Himalayan sea salt
- Mix all spices together in a small cup or bowl, then use to season a wonderful dish!
Can you think of other seasoning packets you could replace with homemade mixes? I would love to have a whole booklet of make-ahead seasonings to share with you all, so be sure to comment and tell me what you'd like to see me post next!
